Boulder MUSE is a free music education program designed for under-resourced K-8 students in Boulder County. The study of music, both instrumental and choral, enhances brain development in many ways. The majority of MUSE students are second language learners. The benefits of music education on the development of literacy are widely supported. In addition to what the study of music can offer young people in the areas of intellectual, emotional and social development, the Boulder MUSE program instills self-esteem, discipline, responsibility and respect for self and others in a warm and safe environment.
Inspiration for this program comes in large part from El Sistema, a worldwide music education program for underprivileged youth, begun in Venezuela in 1975.
